Campaign is building steam in Logansport
LOGANSPORT, Ind.—On the heels of the official kickoff of its Building communities. Changing lives. Vision Campaign, Ivy Tech Community College has received a $45,000 pledged donation from MW Industries Inc. As a result, an industrial lab and a student huddle space in the new campus building will be named in its honor. President and CEO of MW Industries, Daniel R. Sebastian, says Ivy Tech is important to his company and his community’s success.
“Not only is it important for us to have an available pool of talented, well-qualified, well-educated individuals to staff our organization, it is important for the entire city of Logansport,” says Sebastian, who has called on Ivy Tech in the past to provide MW Industries with apprenticeship programs as well as contract training classes. “We see Ivy Tech playing an important role in providing us with the skilled and educated workers we will need in the future.”
Sebastian says he sees MWI’s contribution not only as a gift to Ivy Tech, but a gift to Logansport and the surrounding region.
“Our core company, Matthew Warren, has been in this area for over 80 years. We’ve always had a strong commitment to the local community and we take our responsibility as a good corporate citizen very seriously. I think this donation represents a first step in building a stronger relationship between MW Industries, Ivy Tech, and the entire Logansport area.”
MW Industries Inc. (www.mw-ind.com) is a manufacturer of springs, stampings, and fasteners. Started 80 years ago as a single company, MWI today operates 13 facilities and employs over 900 people. Ivy Tech announced on July 24 the beginning of its three-year vision campaign, Building communities. Changing lives., in Logansport that will raise funds to improve and expand the programs and educational opportunities it offers. The regional campaign to raise $4.25 million will benefit the Kokomo, Logansport, Peru and Wabash campuses. The region-wide campaign consists of separate campaigns for each of the four communities. Funds raised in each community will be used to benefit the local campus according to its assessed needs. The money will be used to support existing academic programs, initiate new ones, increase scholarships, and continue the growth and quality of facilities at Kokomo, Logansport, Peru and Wabash. The campaign stems from a 67 percent increase in enrollment throughout the region in the past five years which has resulted in the greater need to expand and enhance both programs and facilities.
Ivy Tech Kokomo Region Chancellor Steve Daily is excited about partnering with MW Industries both during the campaign and beyond.
“We are extremely grateful for the generous donation,” said Daily. “It will allow us to improve educational services in Logansport and Cass County and also will help us to further our mission of providing highly skilled employees to the area’s workforce. We look forward to working with MW Industries as we both strive to make Logansport and Cass County even better.”
In addition to the $45,000 contribution from MW Industries, several other local leaders have pledged their support to the campaign with leadership gifts, including Milt and Jean Cole; the Jones family; Material Processing Inc. and subsidiaries ABC Metals Inc., H.T.I. and Small Parts; Logansport Machine Company; Logansport Savings Bank; Security Federal Savings Bank; Federal Mogul; Logansport Memorial Hospital; the Kirkwood family; and Brian and Angela Shockney.
