KOKOMO, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo Region recognized students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and leadership at its annual Honors Day ceremony at the Peru High School Auditorium on Friday.
Jill L. Stewart-Walley and Nancy Lipari were named the 2009 Chancellor’s Award and Vice Chancellor’s Award recipients, respectively. The awards are the two highest honors the Kokomo Region bestows upon students.
In addition to the Chancellor’s and Vice Chancellor’s Awards, each degree program honored its 2009 outstanding graduate. The following students were honored as outstanding students in their respective program:

The college handed out several other awards including the Professor of the Year Award, the Helping Hand Award, the Phi Theta Kappa All-Indiana Academic Team honor, and the “I Love to Write” Creative Writing Contest awards. Cheryl Maple, full-time nursing faculty member and the CNA program coordinator, received the Professor of the Year Award while academic secretary Megan Burriss received the Helping Hand Award for her excellent service to both students and faculty. Teresa Cassell, Athena Young, and Virginia Walter were honored for their selection to the Phi Theta Kappa All-Indiana Academic Team, sponsored by Coca-Cola, One America, and USA Today. The creative writing contest winners were Dawn Porter of Elwood who won in the poetry category and Patrice Einsel of Kokomo who won for her personal essay entry. The contest was sponsored by Solidarity Community Federal Credit Union.
