Ivy Tech's Health Sciences adds two faculty

KOKOMO, Ind.—Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo Region recently added Kristy Riddick and Cheryl Maple as faculty members to teach in the college’s School of Health Sciences. Both bring a wealth of experience to the college.

Riddick, who has been with the college since May, is the chair of the dental assisting program and teaches the Expanded Function Dental Assisting course. She has played an integral role in the development of the new dental hygiene program and brings both professional experience and a background in education to college.

Upon graduating from Des Moines Area Community College in 1991, Riddick became a Certified Dental Assistant and has worked in the dental profession for more than 15 years. She earned her bachelor’s in education from Graceland University in Iowa and has worked in education for five years.

Maple, now a full-time nursing faculty member and the CNA program coordinator, has been an adjunct instructor for the college the past two semesters. As a faculty member, she will use her 26 years of experience to teach hospital clinical rotations to students pursuing an Associate of Science in Nursing or a Licensed Practical Nursing certification.

Before coming to Ivy Tech, Maple served 15 years as educational coordinator and home care nurse with Visiting Nurse Service Inc. Howard Regional Home Care. She also has served two years as the immunization nurse for the Carroll County Health Department and six years in long term care holding multiple positions including educational coordinator and director of nursing.  She began her career as a staff nurse on medical surgical floor and obstetrics with Howard Regional Health System. Maple earned both her Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from IU Kokomo. She will begin working on her Master’s of Science in Nursing Education from Ball State University in the spring semester of 2009.
