Veterans Benefits
NEW! REAP is a new benefit providing educational assistance to members of the reserve components-Selected Reserve and Individual Ready Reserve - who are called or ordered to active service in response to a war or national emergency, as declared by the President or Congress. Eligibility will be determined by the Department of Defense or Department of Homeland Security as appropriate. Generally, a member of a reserve component who serves on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001 under Title 10, U.S.C., for at least 90 consecutive days under a contingency operation is eligible for REAP.

Veterans and military personnel. Individuals discharged after January 1955 or enlisted prior to January 1977 may be eligible for Veteran’s Educational Assistance. Veterans who enlisted after January 1977, may be eligible for benefits under the Post-Vietnam Era Educational Assistance Program if they contributed to the program while on active duty. Military personnel on active duty may be eligible for VA tuition assistance while attending classes. Contact the Indiana Department of Veteran’s Affairs or Ivy Tech’s veterans representative for further information.

Selected Reserve Educational Assistance Program. Members of the U.S. Army Reserve, Naval Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Army National Guard or Air National Guard may be eligible for benefits under Chapter 106 of the VA Regulations. Eligible students should contact the Office of Financial Aid for additional information and applications.

Child-of-Disabled-Veteran Award (CDV).Fee remission is given to children of veterans who have a service-connected death or disability or who received a Purple Heart. Special documents are required for initial consideration. Applications are available at the financial aid office.

The Indiana National Guard Supplemental Grant guarantees up to 100 percent of certain tuition costs will be met by the State of Indiana for eligible members of the Indiana Air and Army National Guard. To be eligible, an applicant must be certified by both the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI) and the Indiana National Guard (ING) and attend a state-funded college or university.

The Post- 9/11 GI Bill is a new benefit providing educational assistance to individuals who have served on active duty on or after September 11, 2001.

When Can I Receive Benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill?

Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits are payable for training pursued on or after August 1, 2009. No payments can be made under this program for training pursued before that date.

What does The Post- 9/11 GI Bill cover?

You may receive benefits for training programs approved for chapter 30 that are offered by an institution of higher learning. This includes graduate and undergraduate training, vocational/technical training and foreign training. You may also receive benefits for tutorial assistance and reimbursement of a licensing and certification test. Additionally, if you were eligible for chapter 30, 1606 or 1607, and you elected to use benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill, you would be eligible to receive benefits for on-the-job training, apprenticeship training, correspondence courses, flight training, preparatory courses, and national exams.
