INDIANAPOLIS—Ivy Tech Community College has hit another record high for first day of Spring semester enrollment. With 90,627 students enrolled statewide for classes on Monday, Ivy Tech’s total headcount is up 14.2 percent compared to the first day of classes last Spring.
The state’s community college saw an increase of more than 11,261 additional students enroll this Spring semester as compared to last Spring. Each of Ivy Tech’s 14 regions across the state experienced growth.
“It is very clear that people are recognizing that further education will best position them to be competitive in today’s workforce,” Ivy Tech Community College President Thomas J. Snyder said. “Our affordability is making higher education accessible to more and more Hoosiers. Our students are taking advantage of our transfer programs with our four-year partners and also taking the degrees and certificates they earn at Ivy Tech to succeed in today’s workplace.”
More students are taking more credit hours as the full-time equivalent (FTE) numbers increased by 15 percent for first day of Spring semester enrollment to a record Spring high of 51,349.
The overall growth for the 2008-09 academic year has outpaced budgeted funding. Ivy Tech estimates FTE will reach 53,600 this year, nearly 7,000 FTE more than was used in state funding calculations.
Ivy Tech recently surpassed the Indiana University system to become the state’s largest public post-secondary institution with more than 120,000 students enrolled annually. Ivy Tech’s annualized enrollment has nearly doubled over the last 10 years, growing from 67,502 students in 1997-1998 to 120,447 in 2007-2008.
Kokomo Region
Ivy Tech Community College’s Kokomo Region has hit another record high for first day of Spring semester enrollment. With 4,533 students enrolled regionally for classes on Monday, Ivy Tech Kokomo Region’s total headcount is up 19.9 percent compared to the first day of classes last Spring.
The region saw an increase of more than 753 additional students enroll this Spring semester as compared to last Spring. In addition, more students are taking more credit hours as the Kokomo Region’s full-time equivalent (FTE) numbers increased by 24.2 percent for first day of Spring semester. As a result, the full-time enrollment equivalent jumped to a record Spring high of 2,555. Ivy Tech Community College is the state’s largest public post-secondary institution and the nation’s largest singly-accredited statewide community college system with more than 120,000 students enrolled annually.
