Taking the Accuplacer assessment?

IVY PREP MAKES SURE YOU'RE READY.

To help students maximize their chances of being placed directly into their chosen program path, Ivy Tech Community College has developed a resource called Ivy Prep. Ivy Prep is designed to make it more likely you'll perform well on the Accuplacer assessment, whether you're taking it for the first time or trying to improve.

How assessment works - and how Ivy Prep can help you succeed

To ensure you're placed in the appropriate classes, most of you are assessed through a tool called Accuplacer. The better you do on Accuplacer, the fewer remedial courses you will have to take. Maybe you won't need any! Doing well can save you lots of time and money. AND it can move you directly into the courses of your chosen program.

Missed the mark the first time you took Accuplacer? Ivy Prep can help you improve.

Ivy Prep isn't just for students taking the Accuplacer for the first time. So if you weren't satisfied with your initial results, it's worth aiming for improvement. By participating in Ivy Prep you can identify problem areas and get the support you need to achieve the best results.

Ivy Prep is currently offered at the following campuses (click your campus for more information). More campuses coming soon!

Bloomington

What is Ivy Prep

IVY Prep is open to students that are beginning their Ivy Tech career as well as established students that want to increase their ACCUPLACER score in math and English. It is best for the students that are just below the critical level and need to test higher so that they can enter in the class that is more suited for their major. It is also good for the student that needs to improve their scores on their reading portion of the ACCUPLACER so that they may enter a college level reading class.

How does it work

IVY Prep is an online program that leads students through activities to improve their ACCUPLACER score.  In order to gain access to the program students need their ACCUPLACER score report.  Students can take this report to their advisor or to the Office of Retention to get an access code and complete directions on how to login to the program.

Should you consider Ivy Prep?

  • Are your Accuplacer scores too low to allow placement in college-level reading or math at Ivy Tech?
  • Were you close to the cut-off for the next higher English or math class?
  • Do you feel you could have scored better with a little review and preparation?
  • Has it been a long time since you were in school or took classes?
  • Do you want to work toward completing your certificate or degree faster?
  • Would you like to start classes at a higher level?
  • Do you need to build confidence in your skills before beginning classes?

Ivy prep allows you to work at your own pace following a schedule that works for you. The lab is in Ivy Hall Room 1249 with coaching assistance available from Monday-Friday, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. The Learning Resource Center and Open Lab will be available other hours, but without coaching assistance.

To enroll in this free assistance program, go to the Learning Resource Center in Ivy Hall Room 1157. Bring the results sheet from the Accuplacer test with you; it contains your locator code.

Once you are enrolled, you will receive a free enrollment code. You will be able to work off campus on your own schedule. However, we strongly encourage you to commit to at least two hours per week on campus in the lab. Once you have completed the Accuplacer prescribed sections, you may retake the test to improve your scores and placement.
