Men's Basketball News:

Men’s Basketball Team Routs Columbus; Comes Up Short Against Rose-Hulman

The Ivy Tech men’s basketball team was in action this past week, with games against Ivy Tech Columbus and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology’s JV.  In the first game, against Ivy Tech Columbus, which was the first meeting ever between the two schools, the Bears turned out to be too athletic and physical as they defeated the Eagles 85-57.  Kenyatta Hardy, who has had a hot hand as of late, poured in 16 points, along with 6 steals and 2 assists.  Coach Greg Leigh was pleased with his team’s performance, stating that, “overall the team played a solid game.  Newcomer Justin Reedy played a solid game off of the bench.”  Ivy Tech will not have to wait long to play this Columbus team again, as they are the Bears first round opponent in the Ivy Tech Invitational on February 23.

Having won 4 of their past 6 games, the Bears came into the game against Rose-Hulman with the upmost confidence and ready to take down the Fightin’ Engineers.  Ivy Tech came up short however, as Rose-Hulman defeated Ivy Tech by the score of 78-63.  Cameron Blakely, Brandon Brown, and Aaron Austin led the way for the Bears, all posting in double figures.  Coach Leigh was optimistic even though the team was defeated, saying, “Overall, I thought the team played well.  Newcomer Riley Miller brought a lot of energy off of the bench.”  Unfortunately, point guard Titus Wright, who had been nursing a sore ankle, reinjured it and will most likely have to sit out the next game.

Ivy Tech will be in action next on Saturday, February 16 against Ivy Tech Franklin.  The game will be taking place at the Boys & Girls Club in Franklin, with the tipoff being set for 6:00 p.m.  The Boys & Girls Club is located at 1717 South L Street, Franklin, Indiana 47374.  Furthermore, as stated above, the Ivy Tech Invitational is next Saturday,  at Shortridge High School.  Games begin at 9 a.m., with Ivy Tech – Central Indiana taking on Ivy Tech Columbus at Shortridge and Ivy Tech Lafayette taking on Ivy Tech Franklin at Fall Creek Academy.  The consolation game is at noon and the championship will be at 2 p.m., both of which will be taking place at Shortridge.  Plenty of basketball action coming up and we look forward to seeing you there!
