Ivy Tech Community College- Central Indiana offers multiple program offerings to prepare students for work within the motor sports industry. These curricula have been carefully designed with significant employer input - in short, these training programs offer the education demanded by employers in the industry and provide relevant skills and industry-knowledge to our students.

Program Demand

The motor sports industry in central Indiana has more than 400 companies that employ more than 8,800 workers. The industry pays more than $425 million per year in wages alone and is projected to grow by 37% (approximately 3,000 new jobs) over the next five years.

Program Choices:

There are six different program choices:

  • Associate in Applied Science for High Performance, a specialty of the Automotive Technology Program
  • Associate in Applied Science for Motorsports Fabrication, a specialty of the Automotive Technology Program
  • Automotive Technology - Motorsports Technical Certificate
  • Career Development Certificates in:
    • Fabrication I
    • Fabrication II
    • High Performance

All program choices are designed to prepare the students to work at various levels within the motor sports industry.

Sample Job Titles

  • Fabricator - ability to fabricate car parts utilizing exotic metals, high performance materials, and designed to very high tolerances for use in the motor sports industry
  • Welder - ability to weld exotic metals and high performance materials for use within the motor sports industry
  • High Performance Mechanic - ability to work on high performance engines, transmissions, and other performance systems specific to the needs of the motor sports industry

Typical Salary Ranges

Employees within the motor sports industry make a higher than average wage, with many wages for the aforementioned occupations starting in the $30,000 range and working up to $50,000 depending upon the company and the specialty.
