Qualified Medication Aide
(HHS 288) is a four credit college course which is offered four hours each class for sixteen weeks. Students must complete 60 hours of classroom training and a 40-hour practicum in a nursing home approved by the ISDH as a training site within three months after completing the course.
- The Student must be 18 years of age and have an official GED or high school diploma on file in the Registrar’s Office.

Complete an Ivy Tech Admission’s Process.
- a. Minimum assessment scores must range at the ENG 024, ENG 031 and MAT 044 levels or above.
- Have documented proof of completion of an Indiana Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Training Course or its equivalent and inclusion on the Indiana Nurse Aide Registry.
- Documentation of at least 1000 hours of work experience as a CNA during the two years prior to applying to become a QMA.
- Be employed in an ISDH approved site for QMA training to complete 40 hours of practicum (passing medication to patients). A practicum is not a paid work experience.

State rules require 60 hours of classroom training.
- If more than one class is missed, the student will be dropped from the class.
- The Indiana State Department of Health regulates training classes. Specific attendance is required. If a registered student is not present for the first day of class, a new student may take his/her place.
- Student must pay for class when registering.
- Bring an official copy of a criminal check in a sealed envelope from the Indiana State Police on first of class.

Upon successful completion of the 60 hours of classroom training with a grade of “C” or higher the student must enroll the following semester in HHS 288-02H QMA Practicum a one credit course.
- The 40 Practicum hours must be completed during the semester.
- Student must have a current physical stating they are free of active Tuberculosis.
