Healthcare professionals strive daily to provide real-time health care delivery and aid in health-related decision making. Helping provide that commitment of quality healthcare are health information management professionals who specialize in electronic health records and other emerging technology; education for patients, providers, and administrators; patient record structure and content; data abstracting and analysis; privacy and security issues; quality improvement; compliance of standards and regulatory requirements; support for clinical researchers and business analysts; and advocating for consumers.

Sample careers in this field: Medical Records Analyst, Privacy Officer, Medical Coding Professional, Compliance Officer, Data Quality Analyst, and HIM Supervisor.
