Student Conduct and Community Standards

What is Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS)?

The Office of Student Conduct And Community Standards at Ivy Tech Community College serves as an invaluable resource for students, faculty and staff committed to celebrating our unique community of diverse learners and professionals by maintaining the College's commitment to academic and personal integrity, civil and ethical conduct and institutional equity and inclusion.

Students and the Judicial Process

Each student at Ivy Tech Community College has a bundle of rights and responsibilities that are agreed upon when they become a member of  the College.  Each of which can be found by visiting the Ivy Tech homepage (www.ivytech.edu) and clicking on the Student Rights link. Violations of the Code that occur in conjunction with the daily operation of or any activity sanctioned by Ivy Tech Community College both on campus and off are subject to disciplinary proceedings conducted by the SCCS Office.  While these processes are NOT legal proceedings, they do adhere to  a series of  rules and regulations that comport with general notions of fairness as well as offer the student an opportunity to be heard, present evidence and better educate themselves on the expectations and responsibilities shared by each student member of the Ivy Tech Community.

Faculty/Staff and the Judicial Process

For Faculty and Staff, contacting SCCS is an integral step in the process of  formally addressing student conduct that violates the Code.  Issuing a written formal complaint to SCCS should happen when the conduct is of such a nature that failure to formally address the conduct would likely hinder the learning environment or interfere with normal operations of  the College.  For both Faculty and Staff, familiarizing yourself with the provisions of the Code that address the types of misconduct (academic and non-academic/personal) that are considered Code violations is a good  and necessary place to start.

In order to provide our students with   a truly exemplary community of learning, it is vital that Faculty and Staff understand their role in reporting student misconduct to this Office as well as creating teachable moments for students regarding academic and personal integrity, civility and the mutual respect that reflects our highest aspirations as part of the Ivy Tech Community.  For more information about complaint processes and outcomes, contact  me anytime.

Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities

Reporting Student Misconduct

For all campus emergencies; please contact Campus Safety at (317) 921-8080

Both academic and personal misconduct must be documented on the Incident Report Form located on Campus Connect.

Academic misconduct also requires the completion of a YELLOW CARD.

While judicial conferences for academic misconduct are handled primarily by the faculty, all judicial conferences for personal misconduct are handled by the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.  Once the Incident Report Form is filed, the Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards will reach out to all parties involved to conduct an investigation of the event. The alleged offender will be brought into the SCCS office for a judicial hearing and a finding will be issued and records of the proceeding will be kept in the Office.  The appellate process for decisions made by the Director of Student Conduct and Community Standards is clearly spelled out in the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities which can be found on Campus Connect and at www.ivytech.edu.

For more detailed information on how to report student misconduct, please visit the Training Portal on Campus Connect and take the Student Conduct and Community Standards Computer Based Training.
