A student's grade point average (GPA) is an accumulative average of grades for all Ivy Tech Community College coursework taken, with the exception of Academic Advancement courses.
Two GPA calculations will appear on the student's academic record: Current Term GPA and Cumulative GPA.
Quality points are numerical values indicating the quality of student performance in credit courses: A=4; B=3; C=2; D=1; F=0.
To calculate your GPA, multiply the number of quality points for each grade by the number of credit hours for the course. Add all GPA quality points together and divide by the total number of GPA credit hours completed.
Satisfactory / Unsatisfactory Grades
Some courses are graded on a satisfactory (S) or unsatisfactory (U) basis. All students in the course receive either a S or U grade. These grades are not calculated into the student's GPA.
Incompletes
It is expected that coursework will be completed by the end of each semester. However, at the discretion of the instructor, an "I" designation may be given for extenuating circumstances. The student must request the incomplete, be actively pursuing the course, be passing, and have remaining a small amount of work, such as a final examination, a paper, or a term project which may be completed without further class attendance. Work must be completed within a specified time period not to exceed 30 days beyond the start of the following term unless a written petition for an extension is submitted.
