Please complete the Federal Work Study Application and return it to the Financial Aid Office.  To participate in the Federal Work Study program you must:

  • be currently enrolled and attending at least six (6) credit hours;
  • complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and all related documentation that may have been requested;
  • have remaining need after other aid has been determined - if you have loan funds awarded to you, you may have to reduce your loan amount in order to qualify for Federal Work Study; and
  • meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards.

Applications will be evaluated on a first-come-first-served basis for those students who demonstrate unmet need.  The amount of your award will be determined by the overall amount of federal funds available for the program and the rate of pay for the position based on your working 20 hours/week.

Once we determine you are eligible to participate in the Federal Work Study program:
  • Your application is sent to Ivy Tech - Central Indiana departments that wish to hire part-time student employees.  You may also contact departments where you are interested in working to see if they have any open Federal Work Study positions.
  • The department will contact students they are interested in interviewing / hiring.
  • Chosen applicants visit the Financial Aid Office at the North Meridian Campus (Room 139) to speak with the Federal Work Study Coordinator and complete the new hire paperwork.
  • The new hire paperwork includes a background check, which can take up to one week for the results to be returned.  Once the background check process is complete, both the student employee and the supervisor will receive an email to complete the final step of the Federal Work Study new hire process.
  • The final step is for the student to pick up the Federal Work Study Contract and Employee Authorization Update (EAU) from the Financial Aid Office at NMC.  Submit these forms to your supervisor who will complete and return them to Human Resources.

Once these steps are completed, you are permitted to start working per the schedule arranged with your supervisor.
