Flex Classes
New Course Formats To Fit Your Life
Do you find it difficult to devote 10 weeks to a traditional summer semester class or 16 weeks to a traditional spring or fall semester class?
Need more scheduling options to fit your busy life?
Ivy Tech now has classes starting every month. Flex Terms give you the flexibility to take a portion of your semester off, should other commitments arise, and still be able to complete classes during the semester.
Alternate Timeframe Classes
The drop-down and check boxes in the credit schedule of classes allow you to select many different class time frames.  For this reason it is very important for you to review all start and stop dates for all classes.  Options include:
  • 4-Week Classes:  4-week classes have specific start and stop dates.  Four 4-week sessions are scheduled during each traditional semester.
  • 5-Week Classes: 5-week classes have specific start and stop dates.  Two 5-week sessions are scheduled during each traditional summer semester.
  • 8-Week Classes:  8-week classes have specific start and stop dates.  Two 8-week sessions are scheduled during each traditional semester.
  • 10-Week Classes: 10-week classes have specific start and stop dates.  All normal course content is covered, so classes are slightly accelerated.
  • 12-Week Classes:  12-week classes begin after the traditional semester stars and lasts 12 weeks.  All normal course content is covered, so classes are slightly accelerated.

What is a Flex Term?
Flex Terms are the same as traditional classes in many ways. All carry the same credit hour as a traditional course, cost is the same, all are financial aid eligible, and have the same amount of classroom seat time. Prerequisites for Flex Terms are no different than a traditional course. You can enroll in multiple Flex Terms throughout the semester.
So what's different?
Flex Term start dates are sprinkled throughout the semester to accommodate your scheduling needs. Although Flex Terms meet for fewer weeks than a traditional course, the course hours are not reduced. Flex Terms are a condensed, compact version of a traditional course.
Is it right for me?
Any learner who is self-motivated and committed to college will succeed. As with any course, attendance is critical to your learning. Attendance is a key factor in determining your outcome in Flex Terms. If you find a Flex Term that fits in your schedule and are up for the challenge, a Flex Term is for you!
