Ivy Tech Community College, Central Indiana
Chancellor's Welcome

Dr. Hank Dunn
Chancellor, Ivy Tech Community College - Central Indiana

We congratulate you for choosing Ivy Tech Community College, one of the nation's fastest growing community colleges. We promise to support you in your educational efforts with helpful, professional and friendly faculty and staff. We believe that you will find our academic programs and services to be of the highest caliber, but with the added benefit of being the lowest cost tuition in the entire state of Indiana. Our goal is to ensure your educational success and we strive every day to meet the needs of you the student and the business community around us.

Do you know where you're going and what career path you want to pursue? Great!  More than likely, we have the academic major in which you are interested. Don't know what career path you want to pursue? We can help there also!  We have a variety of support mechanisms to help you determine the careers that might interest you most and then design a career and class pathway for you to get there.

Is time a problem? Don't have all day to take a class? We offer classes in a variety of formats, including 12 week, 10 week and 8 week blocks of time.  Some of our classes are even more accelerated,  and we are well on our way to creating classes to meet the busy time constraints of our adult and working students.  We also offer 9 online degree programs, allowing you to create and keep your own schedule while balancing your family life and work life.

Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana has a unique role among the state's higher education providers. Although it has expanded to meet the full definition of a community college, the heart of Ivy Tech's mission is to support the state's economy through affordable access to higher education. We can help the state, and we can help you also!

The people of Indiana have been “voting with their feet” for that access in increasing numbers: Ivy Tech is Indiana's fastest-growing public institution of higher education. Nearly half a million Hoosiers have enrolled at the college and more than 90 percent remained in Indiana upon completing studies.

Ivy Tech has matured from a limited-mission vocational institution to become the state's first and only comprehensive community college.  The College is the state's primary educational resource for business and industry needs now and in the future. To meet this need, the college conducts a wide variety of workforce and workplace learning activities. We tailor many of our learning activities to meet the needs of business and industry. We're Ivy Tech Community College, where we emphasize “community” and work to meet the needs of the citizens of Indiana.

We welcome you to Ivy Tech Community College, and we know that you will have an outstanding educational experience with us.

Thank you for choosing Ivy Tech Community College.

Sincerely,

About Dr. Hank Dunn:

Dr. Hank Dunn serves as Chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College- Central Indiana, the largest in the community college's statewide network of regions. With an enrollment of more than '21,500' students, Ivy Tech-Central Indiana has a main campus in downtown Indianapolis, another full-service campus in Lawrence, and maintains instructional sites at 16 other locations throughout greater Indianapolis.  Ivy Tech-Central Indiana was named in December 2008 as the fastest growing, large community college in the country by Community College Week. Ivy Tech Community College is the state's largest public post-secondary institution with more than 130,000 students enrolled statewide.

Dunn joined Ivy Tech Community College in July of 2006.  A dynamic educational leader with more than 30 years of experience in higher education and various business settings, he has introduced a number of successful programs at Ivy Tech-Central Indiana aimed at enhancing quality in the classroom, improving services to students, and building partnerships in the community. He is leading the Central Indiana campuses during a period of unprecedented growth.  In the last three years, enrollment has grown 17%  and this year grew by more than 20% to reach 22,000 students at the beginning of the fall 2009 term.

During this time, Dunn has substantially increased capital and equipment expenditures through annual budget allocations to meet the needs of growing academic programs and student services. He has implemented annual program reviews to ensure that academic programs meet high standards. A case management model has been introduced to help students deemed “at risk” integrate into the college experience.  Dunn is also building bridges to the K-12 education through creation of CRCs – College Readiness Centers – pre-college academic programs in math, English and reading, with two established thus far at Decatur Township and Arsenal Technical high schools. And, under his leadership, Ivy Tech-Central Indiana has more than doubled the revenue generated through its Workforce and Economic Development division, which this past fiscal year provided training services to more than 200 employers in the region.

Prior to joining Ivy Tech Community College, Dunn served as Vice President of Student Services at Sinclair Community College. While at Sinclair, he provided key leadership in academic support programs, strategic enrollment management, advertising and promotion of the college, accreditation efforts (AQIP), student learning plans, and general retention initiatives. He was instrumental in the collaborative relationships between the college and the community, business and other higher education partners of the region.

Dunn’s other professional experiences include: Vice President of Finance and Administration for Springz Entertainment Centers, Inc.; Dean of Student Services at Pasco-Hernando Community College; Director of Admissions and Registration, Registrar/Director of Student Services and Director of Financial Aid at Lake City Community College; Vice President/Branch Manager for Florida National Bank; and Director of Financial Aid at Indian River Community College.
