Internships are a one-time work or service experience that allows a student to explore a career interest. Students should have at least some academic preparation in the field of the internship. Interns benefit because they can acquire essential tools for surviving in the workplace such as: handling on-the-job situations, use of office equipment, and handling office politics. Interns generally work under the supervision a practicing professional. Most internships are paid, but some are not. Academic credit may or my not be granted. Internships are often the most flexible of the experiential education opportunities available.
