Medical insurance after age 65 is a major concern for employees. Medicare,
a federally administered program, is an important element of the Retiree
Group Medical Insurance outlined above. Medicare provides the primary
medical coverage for retirees age 65 and over. The College-Sponsored Retiree
Group Medical Insurance is a complement to Medicare and provides coverage
for expenses remaining after Medicare has made payment or does not cover.
All College employees, whether still working or retired, should sign
up for Medicare Part A at age 65. For this coverage to begin at age 65,
you should apply six months in advance of your 65th birthday. Once retired,
you should enroll in Medicare Part B as well. Again, it is advised that
you apply for Part B coverage six months prior to your retirement date.
