Full-Time Employee Handbook
Health Care Programs

The College continually explores new ways to improve and manage your employee benefits. Our primary goal is to provide you, our employees, with the opportunity to receive quality health care services at a reasonable cost for you and your family. Detailed information regarding all of the College's health and dental programs is available on the benefits website, www.gregoryappel.com/ivytech.edu.

The College offers a number of health insurance plans since Ivy Tech has campuses and employees across the entire state of Indiana. The plans offered are region-specific based upon each carrier's ability to provide effective coverage in a given area. You may choose to enroll in the health plan available either where you work or where you live. In those regions where an HMO is available, your medical coverage will be provided through an HMO if you enroll in the College-sponsored group health insurance. There are several Ivy Tech regions where no HMO exists and in those areas a PPO plan or traditional indemnity plan is offered to benefits-eligible employees. Please see the plan summary for the plan available in your region to determine specific benefits.

The College dental plans also offer you two ways to receive your benefits. You may choose Traditional coverage or a Dental Maintenance Organization (DMO), if available in your region. By using the DMO, you receive 100% coverage after a $5 co-pay on much of your dental care.

Through our Tax Saver Program, you can have health and/or dental premium deductions made before your taxes are calculated. Before-tax deductions will decrease your taxes. This chapter outlines your health care programs. There is more detailed information in the booklets provided by the medical and dental insurance carriers, and the Tax Saver section of this handbook.
