Frequently Asked Questions

IS THIS A CREDIT OR NON-CREDIT PROGRAM?
It is currently a non-credit program. As a result, any financial aid you may qualify for through the federal government, state of Indiana, Ivy Tech Community College, or any other entity will not apply. At the end of the program, you will receive a certificate of completion from Ivy Tech Community College.

WHAT IS THE COST OF THE PROGRAM?
Currently, the cost of the program is $1,597.

ARE OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?
Yes. These are not tied to your eligibility for other types of need- or merit-based aid. The program has been awarded a limited amount of HIT scholarship funds, if you are accepted into the program you will be notified of the amount of your award.

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMISSION INTO THE PROGRAM?
You must have either a health care or information technology background. It is preferred that you also have health information technology experience. Click here for the full list of qualifications and to complete the pre-admission form.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE PROGRAM?
This training will not take more than 6 months to complete.

WHAT ARE WORK FORCE ROLES?
The work force roles are six areas of study within HIT. When you apply for the program you will be asked to rank your interest in each of the six work force roles. Click here for the descriptions of each of the roles.

WHEN AND WHERE ARE CLASSES HELD?
This is a hybrid program, so most of the course work takes place online in the Blackboard learning management system (LMS). To complete the program, you must have access to a computer with a reliable Internet connection. You will be required to attend several face-to-face classes and lab sessions. These meetings will take place at an Ivy Tech Community College campus. All of the face-to-face meetings are in the evening in an attempt to accommodate the schedules of working professionals.

WHAT IS A COHORT?
You will be assigned to a group (cohort) of students based on your work and education background and on your interest in a work force role. This cohort of students will progress through the program together.

WHEN WILL THE NEXT COHORT START?
Cohorts will begin regularly through Fall 2012.

HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE ADMITTED TO EACH COHORT?
Depending upon the work force role, each cohort consists of between 15 and 40 participants.

WHAT IS THE EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK FOR HIT CERTIFICATE HOLDERS?
Research indicates a strong demand for skilled and qualified HIT professionals. This program will complement your existing health care and/or information technology skills. It is does not guarantee employment at the conclusion of the program.
