Health Information Technology is a demanding, growing
profession that requires specialized skills, focusing on
electronic medical records and coding. As working professionals
with a background in either Healthcare or Information
Technology, you are eligible to participate in a 6-month online
training program in a collaborative partnership between Ivy
Tech Community College of Indiana and Cuyahoga
Community College/Tri-C, sponsored by the Midwest Training
Consortium - a product of the Office of the National
Coordinator. These training programs are as follows:
- Practice workflow and information management
redesign specialists
The goal of health
informatics is to improve processes, not just computerize
them. This transition requires the ability to assess
workflows in a practice, suggest changes to increase the
quality and efficiency of care and facilitate reporting, and
work with providers to implement the changes. These jobs are
well-suited for people with experience in practice management
or IT in a clinical setting.
- Clinician/practitioner
consultants
We offer programs for licensed
health professionals so they can apply their specialized
clinical knowledge to select hardware/software and work with
vendors to ensure that clinical goals are met.
- Implementation support
specialists
Specialists are needed to install
and test health IT systems in clinical settings to ensure
that the systems are easy and effective to use. The HIT
Consortium provides training for those who already have IT or
information management experience from either within or
outside the health care arena.
- Implementation managers
Those who
have administrative or managerial experience in health or IT
environments may seek additional training to oversee and
manage the transition to health IT for providers.
- Technical/software support
staff
Providers need ongoing support to
diagnose IT problems, develop solutions and keep systems
running smoothly and securely. Those with IT or information
management experience may want to train for these
positions.
- Trainers
The need for skilled
trainers is ongoing. Practice staff will have to be trained
on new systems and upgrades. New staff will have to be
trained as they come on board. IT specialists with training
experience can receive instruction in the design and delivery
of training programs.
In order to apply for training in one of these roles, and
dual enrollment to Tri-C and Ivy Tech, potential students need
to complete the online application.
