Why can't I open an email attachment that was sent to me, what do I need to do?

Usually this happens when you do not have the appropriate software application on your PC to open the file. For example, if the attached file is an Excel file, you need Excel on your PC to open it. In this case you will need to reply to the author asking him/her to resend the attachment as well as informing you as to how the file was created. If you know the document is a word processor file, let the author know which word processing program you hare using. He/she can probably easily translate and send the attachment back to you. If the file is a graphic and it is either a jpg or gif, your browser should be able to open it. Some common file viewers are available on the downloads page that will allow you to view (not edit) some common applications like Microsoft Word, Excel and Visio.
