Graduation

The following six degrees/certificates are awarded by the College to students who meet graduation requirements.

  1. Associate of Arts (AA)
  2. Associate of Fine Arts (AFA)
  3. Associate of Science (AS)
  4. Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
  5. Technical Certificate (TC)
  6. Certificate (CT)

To graduate with one of the above degree or certificate, the student must:

  1. Attain a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in the required technical and general education courses;
  2. Completion of at least 15 degree credits in the curriculum as a regular student of Ivy Tech, and not through test-out or other means of advanced placement;
  3. Successfully complete the required number of credits;
  4. Satisfy all financial obligations due the College; and
  5. Satisfy program accreditation standards that may have additional requirements.

Do you plan to attend Spring Commencement Ceremony?

All Fall 2011, Spring 2012, and Summer 2012 graduates should fill out the (on-line) form to participate in the commencement ceremony. For those desiring to participate in commencement, the application must be submitted by February 17, 2012 for the graduate's name to appear in the commencement program. Students will find the form at Campus Connect by clicking on "APPLY TO GRADUATE."


Checklist for Graduation

You are ready to graduate if you have:

  1. Successfully completed all required courses in your program.
  2. Earned a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  3. Completed at least 15 graded credits at Ivy Tech (Credits earned through test-out or other means of advanced placement are not considered part of the 15 credits).
  4. Satisfied all financial obligations with the College.
  5. Complete the On-line Graduation Application

Diplomas

Students do not need to pick up diplomas. Diplomas are mailed to students after grades are reported to the Registrar's office, and Program Chairs certify that students meet requirements for graduation.


Date and Location

The commencement ceremony for Ivy Tech Community College – Central Indiana is Saturday, May 5, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at the Pepsi Coliseum, Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th Street, Indianapolis.

Students who will complete their degree requirements during the Summer 2012 session may participate in the commencement ceremony.


Commencement Day

Graduates should arrive at the Champion's Pavilion no later than 1:00 p.m. to line up for the processional. Look for your Program Chair. Be sure to leave all valuables, including purses and coats, with friends or family prior to the 1:00 p.m. line-up. Ivy Tech is not responsible for items left in the Champion's Pavilion.


The Ceremony

The commencement ceremony lasts approximately 2 hours. Graduates' names will be announced as students cross the stage to be recognized. Family and friends are welcomed to attend.


Ordering Caps, Gowns, and Announcements

Order caps, gowns, and announcements at the Follett Bookstore at the North Meridian or Fairbanks Center. Sales begin on January 23, 2012.

Caps and gowns will arrive at the Follett Bookstores in early April. A limited number of caps and gowns will be available for last-minute purchase until May 5, 2012 for those who did not order in advance. Supplies are not guaranteed.

Students can use financial aid until January 25, 2012 to buy caps, gowns, and commencement items.

Appropriate Attire

Women should wear a dress or skirt outfit and low-heeled, dark shoes. Men should wear slacks, shirt, tie, and dark shoes. Please iron or steam your robe before arriving for the ceremony.

Columbus/Franklin

The 2012 Graduation Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Franklin Middle School. The ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Each student entering the final semester prior to graduation must complete an Application for Graduation. You can apply online through Campus Connect by following these easy steps:

  1. Log into Campus Connect
  2. Under "My Ivy Tech" click on "Apply to Graduate"
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to select your curriculum, name to appear on the diploma, mailing address and whether you will be attending the commencement ceremony.

East Central (Anderson, Marion, Muncie, New Castle)

2012 Graduation Ceremony

Ivy Tech Commencement will be at 7 pm Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Emens Auditorium, Ball State University, Muncie, IN. The ceremony usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes.

Graduating students should assemble at Emens Auditorium at 6 pm. Your Academic School dean will be in place outside of Emens to assist with line up. Be sure to leave all valuables, INCLUDING purses, with friends and family prior to the 6 pm line-up.

What to Wear

Women should wear a dress or skirt and low-heeled, dark shoes. Corsages should not be worn during the ceremony. Men should wear a shirt, tie and dark shoes. Tennis shoes are not appropriate. Please have your robe pressed

Honor Graduates

Only honor students who participate in the graduation ceremony will receive Ivy Tech honor cords. Cords are provided at rehearsal and will be available in the students robing area prior to the ceremony.

Notice to members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK): YOU MAY WEAR ONLY ONE ITEM OF HONOR RECOGNITION DURING GRADUATION. You may choose to wear PTK honors cords or the PTK honors stole or Ivy Tech honor cords. You may not wear the PTK gold tassels. Please check with your PTK advisor for information regarding Phi Theta Kappa honor apparel.

Special Arrangements

Students who have special needs (such as wheelchairs) should contact Student Affairs by Friday, April 8, 2011. At the ceremony, ushers will be available to help family members with special needs.

Kokomo (Kokomo, Logansport, Wabash)

The 2012 graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Memorial Gym in Kokomo, 303 E. Superior St. The ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. (EST).

Lafayette
The 2012 graduation ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Purdue University, Elliott Hall. The ceremoney will begin at 2 p.m. (EST).

Checklist for Graduation

Graduates must complete the "Graduation Application". If you have not completed your Graduation Application, make an appointment with your advisor today. You must complete this form to graduate.

In order to graduate, you must:

1. Successfully complete all required courses in your program

2. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher

3. Complete at least 15 graded credits in the program you intend to graduate from at IVY Tech (Credits earned through test-out or other means of advanced placement are not considered part of the 15 credits).

4. Satisfy all financial obligations with the College

North Central (Elkhart, South Bend, Warsaw)

The 2012 Graduation ceremony will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at the University of Notre Dame Joyce Center. The ceremony will begin at 6:00pm (EST).

Wabash Valley (Greencastle, Terre Haute)

Graduation will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 7 p.m.  The ceremony will take place at the Hulman Center, located at 200 North 8th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana.
