Return on Investment

Ivy Tech has a history of fiscal responsibility and academic excellence. However, rising enrollments, new and expanded training programs, and continually evolving technological advances have put an increasing strain on the college's resources. To meet the challenges of growth, we now look to you, our friends, alumni, and communities to ensure this highest level of learning continues in Indiana. Celebrating the uniqueness of Ivy Tech and its communities, specific needs for investment vary by campus and program. Overall, however, the opportunities to fuel growth of Ivy Tech fall into three major categories:

STUDENT SUCCESS
While 53% of degree-seeking Ivy Tech students receive financial aid, the sobering fact is that many more need assistance to attend. The gap between aid and need is especially acute for

individuals and single parents in low-wage, lower opportunity jobs. To put an Ivy Tech education within the grasp of every Hoosier will require an investment in both immediate-use scholarships and endowments to build a stable base of aid for generations to follow. This investment in students is vital to encourage college attendance among the populations that most need new skills.

FACULTY SUPPORT
Exponential growth and tight budgets have forced Ivy Tech to economize through the hiring of significantly higher numbers of part time faculty. While the number of graduates has doubled in the past 10 years, the ratio of part time to full time faculty actually increased. Full time faculty are key to continued growth and quality. They provide consistency in teaching and advising students, specialized skills in their technical areas, and leadership for curriculum development. Ivy Tech seeks to add 200 full time instructors to meet the average recommendations of its credentialing body.

CAMPUS CAPACITY
To accommodate enrollment growth, Ivy Tech must grow physically. It must add space for technical laboratories, with the infrastructure to adapt to changing teaching methods and equipment installations. It must also provide the state-of-the-industry machines, computers, software and trainers needed to fill these spaces with learning. As the training and retraining needs of future and current workers grow, facilities will have to grow with them in order to manage an expanding number of students seeking an Ivy Tech Community College education.
