Throughout Indiana, corporations are recognizing the crucial role that Ivy Tech Community College plays in strengthening the state's workforce. In northeast Indiana, one company recently demonstrated its belief in Ivy Tech by taking advantage of a naming opportunity on the College's new North Campus.

In November 2008, Steel Dynamics, Inc. presented a gift of $1.2 million to Ivy Tech Northeast Chancellor Mark A. Keen, Ph.D. As a result, the College will name its newest building The Steel Dynamics, Inc. Keith E. Busse Technology Center, making it the first named building on the Fort Wayne campus. The gift from Steel Dynamics Foundation, Inc. is the largest

corporate gift received by the Transforming Tomorrow's Workforce - Changing Lives, Changing Northeast Indiana Capital Campaign. Keith Busse, Steel Dynamics President and CEO, says that the company sees its gift as an investment in workforce development in northeast Indiana

"As we continue to grow our steel business, we're finding ever-growing needs in this area. Ivy Tech is exactly the kind of school that young men and women need. The College affords them the opportunity to get a two year degree, to apply skill sets in the mechanical, electrical or IT fields and be a service to employers like Steel Dynamics."

The Steel Dynamics, Inc. Keith E. Busse Technology Center will house most of the academic programs in Ivy Tech's School of Applied Sciences and Engineering Technology and its School of Technology. The 107,000 square foot building is slated to open for classes in January 2010. Chancellor Keen says the College is proud to be associated with companies like Steel Dynamics.

"We are thrilled to name our new technology center after one of the preeminent employers and technology oriented companies in Indiana," he states. "For generations, students will know that they have the finest possible facilities in which to learn thanks to the farsighted generosity of this outstanding corporation and one of its founders."
