New Students

Student Support and Advising Services (SSAS) advisors work with new students during their first semester at Ivy Tech. We will answer basic questions about college life and programs at Ivy Tech, help you start your academic plan, and select your first semester courses. We will also:

  • Go over your placement test results
  • Assist with verification of transfer credit (final evaluation is done at the Office of the Registrar and at the program level)
  • Explain policies, procedures, and prerequisites
  • Make referrals to other college services
  • Help you set goals
  • Answer general questions during your first semester
  • Listen to you!

Your Role as a Student

  • Meet with an advisor to get the information you need
  • Seek assistance when needed
  • Make and keep your appointment - call to change or cancel
  • Prepare for advising appointments
  • Ask questions and follow up
  • Make decisions about academic, career and personal goals
  • Ask about and take advantage of College resources
  • Be open concerning schoolwork, study habits, academic program, etc.
