Veterans Information
Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana is approved for enrollment certification of students eligible to receive educational assistance from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA).
The information on this website is based on existing rules and regulations of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and should not be construed as being absolute. New rules and regulations are being released by the DVA continually and may supersede the information included on this website. You will be notified of changes that will affect your benefits.
Student Responsibilities
In order to comply with laws governing the veterans education benefits, it is your responsibility as a student to notify the Financial Aid Office of your enrollment status with Ivy Tech each term.
You must inform the Financial Aid Office when you:

Add or drop a class

Change your major, degree objective, or specialty

Change your address
-
Withdraw from College or stop attending

Receive an incomplete grade
The DVA will not pay for the repeat of satisfactorily completed courses, except under special circumstances.
If you do not make satisfactory academic progress and are suspended by Ivy Tech, your education benefits cannot be resumed until you have met the College requirements for reinstatement.
Your education benefitsmay be terminated if you do not comply with the regulations stated above.
Payment Arrangements
A student that receives veteran's educational benefits must make payment arrangements with the Business Office before the beginning of each semester, as veterans benefits are always paid to the student in arrears. Please remember that a student is not officially enrolled in classes until his or her tuition and fees have been satisfied in the Business Office.
Chapter Benefits
Described below are chapters under which you may qualify. Booklets on these programs are available from the Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana Northeast VA advisor. Or visit the GI Bill Web Site at www.gibill.va.gov for more information.
Chapter 30 - New Montgomery G.I. Bill - Active Duty

Persons who entered active duty after July 1, 1985, and had their military pay reduced by $100 per month for 12 months, qualify for this program.

This is a non-refundable contribution.

These persons also must have served a minimum of two years, earned a high school diploma or its equivalent either prior to, or during the qualifying enlistment, and must have an honorable discharge.
Chapter 1606 - New Montgomery G.I. Bill
Selected Reserve/National Guard
- This program provides benefits for members of the Reserve/National Guard who enlisted, re-enlisted or extended their enlistment for a period of six years after July 1, 1985.
Chapter 1607 - Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)
- This program provides assistance to members of the respeve components - Selected Reserve and Individual Ready Reserve - who are called or ordered to active service in response to a war or national emergency as declared by the President or Congress.
Chapter 35 - Dependents or Spouse of 100% Disabled or Deceased Veterans (Service Connected)

This program provides benefits for dependents and spouses of veterans who died or are 100% disabled due to service-connected causes.
Additional Entitlements
TUTORIAL ASSISTANCE is available through Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana. For more information about the tutoring services please call the Center for Academic Excellence at 480-4262.
ADVANCE PAYMENT of educational assistance allowance is intended to help students meet school-related and other expenses which are concentrated at the beginning of a term. When a veteran, serviceperson, reservist, or other eligible person enrolls at a halftime rate or more, and is not eligible for an interval payment, he or she may elect, in writing, to be paid in advance for the first initial month or a fraction thereof at the beginning of the term plus the amount payable for the following month. Students should be aware that if they receive advance payments at the beginning of a fall term commencing in August, they will not receive their October benefit check until after November 1.
NOTE: The Veterans Administration must have advance payment requests 30 days before classes begin.

Transfer Students
The appropriate forms will be provided to you by the Financial Aid Office. VA requires that transcripts from all previously-attended colleges be evaluated. It is your responsibility to provide Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana - Northeast with your transcripts.
