Transferring Financial Aid from Another College to Ivy Tech

The process of transferring your financial aid from another college to Ivy Tech is complicated, but this checklist should help.

STEP #
WHAT TO DO:
Step 1: Release Federal Aid Application Information to Ivy Tech The information on your federal Student Aid Report (SAR) must be electronically released to Ivy Tech. There are a few ways to do this:
  1. You may already have a copy of your Student Aid Report. It's usually 4-5 pages of FAFSA information - if you have it, submit it to the Financial Aid Office.
  2. If you don't have a copy of your Student Aid Report, you can call 1-800-433-3243 and request a duplicate be mailed--this takes 7-14 days. Be sure to confirm your mailing address when you call.
  3. Your current school may be able to provide you a copy of your SAR or give you a number from the SAR called a DRN Number that can be used to obtain your FAFSA information electronically; submit your DRN number to the Ivy Tech Financial Assistance Office.
Step 2: Transfer State Aid to Ivy Tech

If you receive state financial aid, you must call 1-888-528-4719, write to the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI), 150 E. Market St., Indianapolis, IN 46204, or go to the SSACI website to inform SSACI of the decision to transfer to Ivy Tech Northeast. The school code is 009926.

Also, the student may use PIN# to go online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and select "Make Corrections to a Processed FAFSA" and add Ivy Tech code 009926.

Step 3: Transfer Loan Aid to Ivy Tech If you receive financial aid in the form of a student loan, you must contact your lender to cancel any pending disbursements at your prior school, then inquire about loan application procedures at Ivy Tech. Remember that first-time Ivy Tech borrowers are subject to rules that require a 30-day waiting period to obtain loan proceeds.
Step 4: Complete Admissions Procedures

You must be degree-seeking to be eligible to receive financial aid. Please contact the Office of Admissions to receive information about procedures.

Office of Admissions requirements include the following:

  1. You must complete an Admissions Application.
  2. You must have an official high school transcript or GED scores submitted to the Office of Admissions by the granting institution.
  3. In some cases you may have to have your college transcript submitted to the Office of Admissions by the granting institution.
Step 5: Pay Tuition Tuition must be paid to the Ivy Tech Cashier's Office by the established due date. Students in the process of transferring financial aid should be prepared to pay for tuition and books without the benefit of financial aid. If admissions and/or financial aid files are not complete, no aid will be awarded to pay or defer tuition.
