How to Apply for Financial Aid
Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov). You can fill out an application at anytime during the school year. However, it is recommended that you apply at least 6-8 weeks before the semester in which you intend to enroll. You only have to apply once per academic year.
To be considered for state financial aid, your 2007-08 FAFSA must be RECEIVED by the federal processor on or before March 10th, 2007. This is a received by date and no longer a postmark date. You can file the FAFSA on-line in "real time" at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov or a paper FAFSA via mail. It's up to you to make sure that the federal processor RECEIVES your FAFSA on or before the deadline. Paper filers need to factor in mailing time since all that matters is that the paper or on-line FAFSA is RECEIVED by the deadline by the federal processor. File as soon after January 1 as possible. This is the priority deadline for the following grants and scholarships:
- Frank O'BannonGrant
- 21st Century Scholarship
- Child of Veteran & Public Safety Officers Grant (CVO)
- Indiana National Guard Grant
- Part-Time Indiana Grants, as well as
- Ivy Tech Grants.
If you do not meet the March 10 deadline for state aid, you can still complete the FAFSA to apply for Federal grants and loans as well as several Ivy Tech awards. However, the later you apply, the greater the chances that some sources of aid will be depleted. If you are asked to provide information and documents to the Financial Aid Office, do so as quickly as possible.
If you are eligible to receive financial aid, you will be sent an Electronic Award Notification via your Ivy Tech email account, at the Campus Connect web portal (cc.ivytech.edu). This email will have a direct link to your Electronic Award. Click on this link and you will see your award notification for you to review and approve.
What You Will Need In Order To Complete The FAFSA:
- Your Social Security and driver's license numbers
- Your parent's Social Security number and birthdate, if you are dependent. ( read "Am I a Dependent Student?" )
- Your Federal income tax return
- Your parent's Federal income tax return, if you are dependent
- Your W-2 forms
- Your Parent's W-2 forms, if you are dependant

Financial Aid Deadlines:
It is recommended that you submit your FAFSA at least 6-8 weeks before the semester in which you plan to enroll. You can apply for financial aid by submitting a FAFSA at anytime during the school year. However, for each academic year, the previous March 10 is the deadline to be considered for state grant assistance and Ivy Tech grant funds (for example, for the 2007-2008 school year which runs August 2007 - August 2008, the FAFSA is due March 10,2007.) It is strongly recommended that you apply by March 10 each year.
