Ivy Tech Community College — Northeast's tutoring program at its Center for Academic Excellence has been re-certified for five years by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Program Certification. This is the second five-year re-certification to be awarded to Ivy Tech's tutoring program. Ivy Tech's tutoring program was initially certified by CRLA in 1997. The College Reading and Learning Association is an international organization of learning assistance professionals comprised of more than 1000 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. CRLA certification establishes professional standards for tutoring services, including training and evaluation.

The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is available to all Ivy Tech students. The CAE offers resources and services to assist students with their academic courses. The services provided are free and funded in large part by a federal grant. The CAE's primary goal is to help students excel in their studies and become competent, self-directed learners. In short, the CAE's goal is to help students reach theirs. On staff are both full and part-time professional tutors with training and experience. The tutors are college degreed, well-versed in tutoring and education, and certified by the College Reading and Learning Association. They provide tutoring in basic skills, general education, and entry-level program courses, as well as study tips and test-taking strategies. In addition to the tutoring services, computers, printers and a scanner are also available for school related work in the CAE's open computer lab. A wide variety of software and internet access is available.

Tutor Certification by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) provides a wide variety of benefits. While meeting the requirement for international certification, Ivy Tech ensures that its tutoring program provides highly motivated tutors who have received a minimum of ten hours of training each semester. The certification process enhances the professionalism and effectiveness of the Center for Academic Excellence's tutoring program and provides the individual tutor with a distinctive achievement recognized internationally. Furthermore, the certificates help set the standard for the minimum skills and training tutors need to successfully make a positive difference in the education of Ivy Tech's continually growing student population.
