Frequently Asked Questions...
...About Tutoring

What subjects does the Center for Academic Excellence offer tutoring in?

We offer tutoring in many Academic Skills Advancement and General Education courses, and some program-level courses. Click here for a complete list of the classes for which we offer tutoring.

Where is tutoring offered?

Tutoring will be available at both North Campus (HM1610/45) and Coliseum Campus (CC2308).

How do I make a tutoring appointment?

You have two options:

  1. You may call the Center for Academic Excellence at (260) 480-4262. A staff member will then schedule you with a tutor. If no one is available to answer the phone, please leave a voice-mail message and an employee will return your call. Before you call, think of what days and times you can come in for tutoring. For the Center's hours of operation, click here.
  2. You may also schedule an appointment by visiting the Center for Academic Excellence.

How much does tutoring cost?

Tutoring is free to enrolled Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana students.

How long do the tutoring sessions last?

The tutor determines the length of a tutoring session, and generally does not  exceed 55 minutes.

When may I schedule an appointment? How often can I see a tutor?

Appointments are scheduled up to a week in advance in courses in which you are enrolled and in which we tutor. You may schedule one appointment per subject. After your tutoring appointment in that subject you may then schedule another appointment in that subject. A maximum of two appointments per week per subject is allowed, dependent on tutor schedules.

Do you tutor students not attending Ivy Tech?

No.

Do you tutor students in preparation for taking the Asset or Compass assessment tests?

No.

What should I do to prepare for an appointment?

We ask that you attempt to understand the assignments before your appointment. This will help us recognize the areas you need help in. Also be sure you continue attending class. Tutoring is a supplement to your in-class instruction; it is NOT a substitute.

What should I bring to an appointment?

Bring your textbook, related notes and class handouts, homework assignments, and paper, pen or pencil.

How do I cancel an appointment?

If you are scheduled for an appointment and cannot keep the appointment, we ask you to provide at least 2 hours notification. Please call us at (260) 480-4262.

What if I don't call to cancel an appointment?

Failure to cancel an appointment may result in your receiving tutoring on a walk-in only basis. For more information, please see our cancellation and no-show policy.

Do you offer tutoring on the weekends?

During fall and spring semesters, limited tutoring is offered on Saturdays at the Center for Academic Excellence. We are closed on Saturdays during the summer. We are always closed on Sundays. For the Center for Academic Excellence's hours of operation, click here.

May I bring children to my tutoring appointment?
