GED Preparation at Ivy Tech:

ASA 003-22 - GED Fundamentals (3 Cr.)

Prerequisite: Minimum entry COMPASS assessment scores of 60 in reading, 23 in writing and 19 in math; or ASSET assessment scores of 34 in reading, 32 in writing and 32 in math.

Presents mathematics, science, social studies, reading and writing skills that prepare the student for the GED test.

Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to

  • Demonstrate an understanding of mathematics including basic arithmetic, data analysis, number relationships and measurement, geometry, and algebra.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of biology, earth science, chemistry, and physics.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of geography, behavioral sciences, economics, political science, and U.S. History.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of prose fiction, poetry, drama, and prose nonfiction.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of organization, sentence structure, usage, and mechanics in written English and write a well-developed essay.
