Admissions Process for Nursing Program

Meet course placement requirement.
If you are a degree-seeking student, you must satisfy the Assessment (Placement) requirement. The placement requirement indicates your mastery of math, reading, and writing. Whether you are a degree-seeking student or not, your level of mastery must be determined before registering for any General Education, and many other classes. The requirement can be met one of two ways:
  1. Take the Ivy Tech Course Assessment Test. Complete the Assessment Test if required (Room 1738). The Assessment can be taken on a walk in basis.

  1. Earn Assessment Equivalency
    • Present SAT scores, 4 years old or less, 460 or higher scores in each section of reading, writing, and math.
    • Present ACT scores, 4 years old or less, 19 or higher scores in each section of reading, writing, and math.
    • Completed college level math and English courses at another accredited college.

Register for General Education, or Academic Skills Advancement classes
as indicated by results of your placement test results. The General Education prerequisite courses that must be completed before a student can be admitted into a nursing program are: English Composition (ENG 111), Introduction to Psychology (PSY 101), Anatomy and Physiology I (ANP 101), Anatomy and Physiology II (ANP 102). You may take these courses before, after or in the same semester that you take the ATI TEAS. If you have taken these courses at another college, please submit an official transcript to Student Support & Academic Services office (Room 1210).

Obtain student ID card and parking permit.
The ID card and parking permit are obtained, free of charge, at the Reception/Security Desk. Protect these. They are valid for all semesters you attend. ID's and parking permits are provided by the Student Government Association.

Pay fees.
Students registering at least 2 weeks prior to semester start will be billed. Otherwise, fees are due at the time of registration. Fees may be satisfied on campus at the Business Office, or may be paid either on line or via the telephone by credit card.

. Textbooks may be purchased in the Bookstore after fees are satisfied.

NOTE: All nursing students are required to take the ATI TEAS Nursing Entrance Exam before applying to the nursing program. Students will receive important information on the ATI TEAS Nursing Entrance Exam during the Nursing Program Information Session.



IMPORTANT NOTES

You must also complete an application for admission into the nursing program. There are separate applications for the ASN and Practical Nursing program. You must complete a Nursing application form, TEAS Entrance Test, and prerequisite courses before you can be considered for admission into a nursing program.

You will need to submit an official high school transcript or your official GED scores if you are applying to the nursing program. Official copies of high school transcripts or GED scores are not required for admissions to the college but are needed for students applying into the nursing program.

Fill out and send in FAFSA. If applying for financial aid, obtain the forms from the Financial Aid Office and send by mail, or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The Ivy Tech Fort Wayne school code is 009926.
