The Ivy Tech Community College  Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa
Celebrates the Burmese Culture at Event

On Sunday, January 25, from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., the Alpha Tau Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa will be hosting “A Celebration of Burmese Culture” at the main branch of the Allen County Public Library.

Phi Theta Kappa students have designed this event to raise awareness of the plight of the nearly 5,000 Burmese refugees residing in Fort Wayne. Students will also begin a month long drive to collect school supplies for the Burmese children during this celebration.

The goal is for the students to learn self efficacy through assisting others as well as to assist a population, which by no fault of their own, consists of displaced individuals transplanted into our community.

This event will be free and open to the public. A wide range of educational activities will be featured at this one day event. Ethnic cuisine, children’s activities, crafts, and games will be the focal point of hands-on intercultural learning. Guests will hear traditional Burmese music, view Burmese attire, which will be worn by volunteers and watch a colorful slideshow of professional photographs of Burma. A variety of traditional dances will be provided by members of the Burmese Community.
