About the Interim Chancellor

Russell D. Baker, Ed. D., is the interim chancellor for the Northeast Region of Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast. He previously was in the position of vice chancellor of academic affairs, with responsibility for instruction, curriculum, and faculty and oversight of all academic programs offered throughout the region. Prior to joining Ivy Tech, he served in various capacities at Indiana Institute of Technology for more than 18 years.

A native of Michigan, Dr. Baker began his professional career at Huntington (Ind.) College (now Huntington University) in 1983 as an admissions representative. He went on to join Indiana Tech as Director of Student Support Services in 1987 and then became the Director of Freshman College in 1993. In 2000, he was named Associate Vice President of the College of Business and Arts and remained in that capacity until shortly before joining Ivy Tech. He earned a Doctor of Education in educational leadership from Ball State University, a Master of Arts in history from Kent State University, and a bachelor’s degree in history from Huntington University.

Dr. Baker has been involved in numerous community service activities, including serving on the board of directors of the East Wayne Street Center, the Greater Fort Wayne Campus Ministry, the Indiana Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel, and the advisory committee for Project READS. He is currently a board member for Study Connection and for Questa Foundation for Education. In addition to serving on numerous statewide committees for Ivy Tech, he was recently accepted to be a consultant-evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission. As an avocation, Baker has been a high school basketball official for the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) for 24 years. He is an avid sports fan who follows all the Detroit professional sports teams.

Dr. Baker and his wife Dolly have a 15-year-old daughter, who just completed her freshman year at Blackhawk Christian, and an 11-year-old son, who just finished fifth grade in the Fort Wayne Community Schools system.
