Transferring In
SSAS evaluates transcripts of students transferring to Ivy Tech. Official transcripts must arrive at our office in a sealed envelope. To request your transcripts be sent to us from another institution, you will need to complete the Request for Official College Transcript form and mail it to the appropriate institution. Keep in mind that many institutions have a fee for official transcripts. You will need to find out your institution's policy on transcript fees.
After we receive the transcript, allow approximately 10 working days to evaluate general education courses. Allow 30 days to evaluate higher-level technical courses. If you are undecided, only credit for general education courses under 10 years old will be reviewed. If you want courses over 10 years old to be evaluated, you must declare a major and request a transcript re-evaluation.
After transcripts are evaluated, the results are posted on the Campus Connect web portal. To view your transcript evaluation results, click on the link above, then click on the "student services" tab. From there, click on "Students click here to:" in the "Online Students and Faculty" channel, then Click on the link under "Online Student Services." Click on the "Students & Financial Aid" link, and finally click on the "Transfer Credit" link.
Transferring On
After completing your classes at Ivy Tech you may be planning to transfer on to another institution. Perhaps you plan to transfer one class or several, or perhaps you are planning on completing a whole Associates degree here, and then transferring in as a junior to a four year college.
If you plan to complete an Associate's degree at Ivy Tech and then pursue a Bachelor's degree at another college, be sure to share your plans with your program advisor as soon as possible. You can receive support in pursuing this goal both from your program advisor and from an academic advisor in SSAS.
If you are planning to take your general education classes here at Ivy Tech, either before transferring to another school or while attending another school, you will continue to be advised in SSAS by an academic advisor until you transfer. Again, be sure to share your transfer goals with your academic advisor.
Your advisor will help guide you through this process, but one of the most important rules in transfer is that in the end, it is the student's responsibility to find out how his/her credits will be accepted and/or applied at the receiving institution.
The documents you'll need to assist you in the transferring on process can be accessed in hard copy through the SSAS office, room 1240, or online below:

Final Thoughts
Minimize the effects of Transfer Shock! When students transfer from one school to another (and especially when they transfer to a larger institution) the first semester can be difficult. "Transfer shock" is the term used to describe this well documented and widely experienced phenomenon. Read more about this.
Transfer agreements change regularly. Ivy Tech, NE is committed to keeping information on this site current. However, it is the student's responsibility to contact the institution to which they hope to transfer to find our how the credits will be accepted and/or applied.
Contact SSAS, room 1240, if you need to speak with an advisor about your transfer process. Our goal is to help you meet yours!
