The SDM summarizes student registration data into a series of reports
and input data for the Data Management Module (DMM). The basic input data
are the course registration records for each student enrolled in each
course at an institution over a three-semester time period. SDM includes
a number of procedures for adjusting and aggregating the data to convert
them to the established IPEDS coding scheme.
The SDM produces three reports. The first is an EDIT REPORT which contains
informational and error messages concerning the input data and control
records. Once the input data have been put into the format necessary for
the reports desired by the user, the CONSUMPTION and CONTRIBUTION REPORTS
may be requested. The CONSUMPTION REPORT indicates, for each field of
study or program, the organizational unit in which those student majors
take course work. It also contains enrollment figures for each student
program and student level on an FTE, head count, and full?time/part?time
basis. The CONSUMPTION REPORT indicates the number of credit hours taken
by a student in each student program from each instructional, organizational
unit.
The CONTRIBUTION REPORT indicates the flow of credit hours from an organization
unit to the student programs; that is, it focuses on the organizational
unit and shows which student programs they serve.
The enrollment data as of "count" date for each of the three semesters
in a fiscal year is used as input for the SDM.
