Student Right-to-Know Consumer Information

Consumer Information

In an effort to assist students in making informed decisions, Ivy Tech Community College posts a great deal of consumer-oriented information online. It may not always be easy to sort through all of our pages in order to find precisely the information needed. In fact, students may not always realize that information they need is already posted. We have therefore created this page to help students identify the consumer information that is available and where to access it. Following is a list of consumer information currently available:

  • Academic Programs, courses, program improvements
    • With the new strategic plan that places teaching and learning as Goal 1, Ivy Tech is identifying and implementing initiatives that support student retention and completion. These efforts are determined by campuses based on local needs, but statewide, we have created a Goal 1 advisory board to identify major initiatives such as a focus on improving gateway course outcomes and expanding faculty development offerings across the Ivy Tech system.

Summary of Civil and Criminal Penalties for Violation of Federal Copyright Laws
Copyright infringement is the act of exercising, without permission of legal authority, one or more of the exclusive rights granted to the copyright owner under section 106 of the Copyright Act (Title 17 of the United States Code). These rights include the right to reproduce or distribute a copyrighted work. In the file-sharing context, downloading or uploading substantial parts of a copyrighted work without authority constitutes an infringement.

Penalties for copyright infringement include civil and criminal penalties. In general, anyone found liable for civil copyright infringement may be ordered to pay either actual damages or "statutory" damages affixed at not less than $750 and not more than $30,000 per work infringed. For "willful" infringement, a court may award up to $150,000 per work infringed. A court can, in its discretion, also assess cost and attorneys' fees. For details, see Title 17, United States Code, Sections 504, 505.

Willful copyright infringement can also result in criminal penalties, including imprisonment of up to five years and fines of up to $250,000 per offense. For more information, see the website of the U.S. Copyright Office.

Notification of loan disclosures:

For those students that are eligible to receive a Direct Loan and have accepted it, Ivy Tech will notify you of your anticipated disbursement date and amount of the disbursement.  Ivy Tech will also notify the student and/or parent’s right to cancel all or a portion of the Direct Loan.  If canceled the loan proceeds will be returned to the U.S. Department of Education based on the request.  The notification will provide the procedures and deadlines by which the student or parent must notify Ivy Tech that they wish to cancel the Direct Loan.

Information on how consumer information can be obtained:

You can find consumer disclosure information on our website or you can request any consumer information disclosure information by contacting the Financial Aid Department and requesting it.

Statement regarding scholarship and grants:

Any scholarship or grant recipients that receive funds in excess of their tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment and other applicable expenses are considered taxable income for federal tax purposes, and it is the student’s responsibility to report this as income on their federal tax return.
