Introduction to Health Programs at Ivy Tech
- Ivy Tech was established in 1963.
- Limited admission health programs began in 1987 in Evansville.

Nursing ASN
- Ivy Tech offers a two-year AS degree.

Practical Nursing LPN
- It is possible for a student to become an LPN in 3 semesters if no Basic Skills Advancement is needed.
- There are up to 35-50 students admitted into the program each year.
- Classes begin in the Fall and Spring semester.
- There is a high student pass rate; usually above 96%.
- Average entry salary for graduates is $15.46 per hour
- Jobs are primarily in rehabilitation & long-term care, physician offices, and clinics.
- There are some limited positions in hospital settings. A person must like to work directly with patients and their families.
- Most positions have limited supervisory responsibilities.

Surgical Technology
- Ivy Tech offers an Associate of Applied Science degree.
- The College admits 16-20 students per year into the program.
- Students must complete 1 year of required general education prior to clinical courses and all recommended Basic Skills Advancement.

- Jobs are located in hospitals, free-standing surgical centers or doctors offices.
- The job is very physically-challenging.
- The job may be high-stress
- Job tasks include assisting with surgeries in and outside sterile areas.
- Additionally, graduates will memorize surgical instruments by position, sight and touch.

Emergency Medical Services
- Ivy Tech offers basic EMT- Basic Training and Certification, EMT- Intermediate Training and Certification, and Paramedic Training and Certification.
- Different levels of training may include Airway Management, IV Therapy, Cardiac Arrest Management, Childbirth and Ambulance Operations.
- A student in this program should like hands-on patient care.
- Students will be asked to make decisions quickly.
- Students will have to work well under stressful conditions and have an interest in helping people.
- The salary for an EMT-Basic is $9.80 per hour.
- An EMT- I earns $12.50 per hour.
- A Paramedic earns $15.10 per hour.

Medical Assistant
- Students may earn a Technical certificate in 3 semesters.
- Earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in 4 semesters
- Graduates with an Associate of Applied Science may articulate to USI Health Services
- Class placement above 95%.
- Duties in an Administrative Office: Medical Office Receptionist, medical office software, EMR's, billing & insurance claims, medical records, patient accounts management, and telephone triage.
- Duties in a Clinical Environment: Phlebotomy, CLIA lab testing, quality control, immunizations certification, injections, TB certified, patient education, patient history, assist with minor surgery, medical records, diagnostic testing, and autoclaving.

- Types of jobs include physician offices, clinics, minor emergency centers - office managers, phlebotomists, EKG techs, insurance coding, IV Therapy, labs, and public health.
- Salary ranges from $11-$13 per hour (many higher with shortage of nurses).

Admission
- To be admitted into any of the above programs, please complete a new student orientation session and fill out an application. Call 429-1435 to sign up for an orientation session.
- You must take COMPASS or get a waiver from prior courses or SAT/ACT and submit HS transcript/GED scores
- You will need to enroll in basic skill or general education courses needed for program.
- Students must take TEAS or PSB and get acceptable scores.
- Admission letters will be sent out (see individual program requirements) spring semester for fall admission and fall semester for spring admission (if applicable).
- Admission is based on space availability and is not guaranteed in limited enrollment programs (eg. SurgTech, and Nursing Programs).
- Basic skill courses must be completed if recommended.
- Clinicals and theory courses are scheduled in both the day and night time.
