Labor Hall of Fame Awards to recognize Ivy Tech Community College President Gerald Lamkin and IBEW Sixth District International Vice President, Jeff Lohman Ivy Tech Community College President Gerald Lamkin and IBEW Sixth District International Vice President Jeff Lohman will be recognized at the 2006 Labor Hall of Fame Awards, at a dinner reception 6:30 p.m., Thursday (8/31) at the Marriott Hotel’s Indiana Ballroom.

The Labor Hall of Fame Awards recognize the partnership between Ivy Tech Community College and labor occupations. The awards center on honoring a member of the Ivy Tech community, a member of the labor occupations community and raising money to support advancements of students and curriculum in the apprenticeship programs.

Hagerman Construction Corporation and IBEW Local 481, Indianapolis are the evening’s title sponsors.

Ivy Tech President Gerald I. Lamkin has been President of Ivy Tech Community College and Ivy Tech Foundation since 1983. Lamkin first become a member of the Ivy Tech staff in 1967 as an accounting and management instructor in Indianapolis.  For the next five years he served as the Accounting and Management Chair, Director of Education, Business Manager and Director of Community Services in Indianapolis and as the Director of Development for the Anderson, Marion and Muncie campuses.  In 1972 he was named Vice President for the college and Dean for the Anderson, Connersville, Marion, Muncie and Richmond campuses,  He served in that capacity for seven years.  In 1979 he was named Vice President for Regional Operations and performed those duties until being named President in 1983.

Monday (8/28) President Lamkin was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Gov. Mitch Daniels. This is the highest honor a governor can bestow. Daniels is the fifth governor to give President Lamkin this honor.

Born and raised in Indiana, IBEW Sixth District Vice President Jeff Lohman has served as an active member of Indiana’s labor movement. In 1966 he was initiated into Local Union 481 where he eventually served as both Vice President and Business Agent; he was elected Business Manager in 1983. Lohman served in that capacity for five years until his appointment as an International Representative by then-International President J.J. Barry. Among the accomplishments in which he takes great satisfaction is being part of the development of the COMET program. In 2002 he became assistant to then Vice President Pat Curley and was appointed to the position of IBEW Sixth District Vice President at Curley’s retirement.

Anyone is invited to attend. Full tables for 8 may be reserved for $1,500 and individual tickets may be purchased for $150. Proceeds will be used to fund scholarships and for the development of a center for excellence in instructional systems to be named in honor of President Lamkin.
