The School of Technology at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana and the Evansville Chapter 73 of The Society of Manufacturing Engineers announce the student Lego robotics competition XII titled "Light It Up!”. In this competition autonomous Lego robots (not remote controlled) will be required to perform a series of tasks to obtain points.
Registration is open to area middle, high school, and college teams. Entries will be limited to the first 30 teams. Each team MUST have four student members and one mentoring advisor. The deadline for ALL registrations is November 7, 2008. The competition will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2008. Sign in will begin at 8:00am at the North Entrance of the main campus building. The competition will be held within the Vectren Auditorium from 9:00am-12:00pm.
The Game:
This is a line follower competition. Each team competes against the clock alone. Each Robot must be able to follow a series of lines to score points. There are three lights that can be lit up each with its own point value; the first one closest to the starting point is worth 1 point, the second 2 points, and the third 3 points. The last and final challenge comes in the form of a box with a hole in it into which a one by one inch square block is to be pushed to score 4 points. There is a total of 10 points that can be scored; the winner will be the one to score the most points. In case of any ties the team with the lowest finish time will be the winner, if both teams have the same time then there will be a playoff match. The time allowed to complete the course is three minutes.
We have Lego kits to lend out for this competition. We are loaning these on a first-come-first-served basis with a maximum of one per school. Kits will be given out on Friday, October 17, at 3 pm in Room 156 in the School of Technology. The competition table will be available to view at that time as well.
We hope to see you there as either a participant or spectator!
