Marion, IN – Ivy Tech Community College and Via Credit Union (ViaCU) are partnering to host a Community Career Fair Thursday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Marion Campus of Ivy Tech, 261 S. Commerce Drive in the Conference Center. The fair is free, door prizes are available, and the event is open to the public.
The fair will host more than 20 businesses from Blackford and Grant Counties looking to hire, and offer breakout sessions throughout the day to provide professional development and networking opportunities to participants. These sessions will last approximately 30 to 40 minutes each and will be presented in the main auditorium near the Conference Center.
10 am: Healthcare Panel
Talk with representatives currently in the healthcare field and learn about various career options as well as information on the Nursing and Healthcare Programs at Ivy Tech Community College.
11 am: College Transfer Panel
Part of preparing for a career is deciding whether to transfer to a Bachelor Degree Program or Graduate School. Learn the best options available to further the students’ education from Ohio Christian University, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Indiana University Kokomo, Manchester University, and Indiana Wesleyan University.
12 pm: Make a Great First Impression
Many employers narrow down their list of candidates based on first impressions. Find out how to make a great first impression with potential employers from Ivy Tech Community College representatives: Sylvia Bogle, Amy Price-Johnson and Jean Taylor.
1 pm: Job Market Outlook
Discover the job market climate and what skills are being sought by Blackford and Grant County employers from Kent Sellers with Indiana Workforce Development.
2 pm: Personal Finance
Learn tips about managing loans and when to start a career from Christina Banker and Tammy Murphy from the Ivy Tech Financial Aid office. Also, learn how to save for retirement from ViaCU Financial Planner, Bonnie Thompson.
Ivy Tech Community College and ViaCU are also partnering with WorkOne to present “Job Readiness” sessions, by preparing job seekers before the Career Fair. Each session will last for 1.5 hours and will be focused on topics such as: interviewing, resume building, filling out applications, building confidence, and professional appearance tips. These sessions will be presented at Ivy Tech Community College in Community Rooms 164/165 on the following dates and are open to the public.
