Senior Scholars As a community college, Ivy Tech offers qualified Indiana senior citizens an opportunity to enroll in credit courses at the College free of charge. Through the "Senior Scholars" program, Indiana residents 60 years of age and older can enroll in courses tuition free. Ordinarily, tuition is $83.95 per credit hour, so Senior Scholars save more than $250 per class.

QualificationsSenior Scholar candidates must be:
  • An Indiana resident
  • At least 60 years of age
  • A high school graduate or GED recipient
  • Retired from their primary vocation
  • Not employed full-time

Course Options The Senior Scholars program extends to a wide array of credit course offerings. Ivy Tech offers courses in five divisions: Business, Health Sciences, Public Services, Technology and Liberal Arts/General Education. Not all courses are offered at each location. Specific information can be found in the course schedule or by searching the online course database.

Distance Education Senior Scholars can also take a course delivered by distance education or through the Internet. Classes are delivered via satellite from one college or university campus to learning centers located throughout Indiana, many of which are on Ivy Tech campuses. The College also delivers courses directly to student homes via the Internet.

Other Information The Senior Scholars program applies to credit courses only. Classes must be taken for a letter grade: Senior Scholars may no audit classes. While tuition is free, students will still be responsible for books and supplies; some specialized courses may also involve a fee for consumable materials.

Many college courses have mandated prerequisites. Students must assure they have met these prerequisites prior to enrolling in courses. Students who have not met prerequisites will be withdrawn from courses for which prerequisites have not been satisfied.

In addition, some courses require a prerequisite that must be met before enrollment is permitted. Enrollment may also be restricted in some courses which are part of a degree program. The College reserves the right to cancel or change courses based upon demand or other circumstances.

How to Enroll To enroll in the Senior Scholars program, please do the following:

  • Certify that you meet the five qualifications of the program that are listed above.
  • Enroll in the eligible course(s) desired and complete all necessary course reservation forms.
