Full-time status is defined as 12 credit hours per semester. Students attending on a less than full-time basis may be accepted by the insurance company if the reduced class schedule is certified by the International Student Advisor.
- The cost to students for the academic year 2009-2010 is $396 per semester, regardless of age.
- Coverage for the fall semester begins on March 15, 2009 and continues through January 10, 2010.
- Students arriving for the spring semester are covered from January 11, 2010 through August 14, 2010.
- The cost for student/spouse insurance per semester is $1,434. The cost for children is $714 per semester.
Exceptions from the mandatory policy/waivers:
Students with pre-arranged health insurance may request a waiver from the mandatory health insurance plan. To qualify for a waiver, you must submit the International Insurance Waiver Request Form to your International Student Advisor with proof of your insurance coverage within 10 days from the date classes begin. You also must provide coverage information (in English) documenting that your medical insurance coverage meets the following minimum requirements:
- Coverage of at least $100,000 per accident or illness
- Deductible not to exceed $50 per accident or illness
- Co-insurance payable by insurance of at least 80%
- Hospitalization coverage of at least $500 per day
- Repatriation and medical evacuation benefits in the event of death or severe illness
Documentation of insurance must include effective dates of coverage. Students who do not file acceptable waiver requests and documentation with their International Student Advisor within 10 days of the beginning of classes are billed for the mandatory insurance and are not eligible for a later credit of this charge.
Note: You must continue to file waiver requests with your International Student Advisor each academic year throughout your study at Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana.
