Dementia Care: Understanding Dementia

This course is designed for health care professionals that are either new to the health care industry or who are unfamiliar with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Understanding dementia begins with an overview of dementia and the specific diseases that may cause dementia. The diagnostic process, dual diagnosis, and progression of Alzheimer's disease will be covered. Medications and non-pharmacologic forms of treatment will also be addressed.

Dementia Care: Activities of Daily Living

This course will provide an advanced look at personal and daily care. Techniques for activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, and ambulation) will be discussed. Dementia Care: Directing an Alzheimer's Unit

Nutrition and hydration are addressed as well as goal setting and identifying strategies for caregiving when changes in eating behaviors occur. Potential solutions and techniques are presented, with specific emphasis on topics such as combativeness, incontinence, sexuality, and wandering.
