Computer Information Systems

Get the knowledge you need to meet today's business requirements in the computer world. The Computer Information Systems curriculum is designed to provide a flexible and comprehensive education. You will be instructed in both theoretical concepts and practical applications. You also will become familiar with programming languages, operating systems, database management systems, and web design, as well as application programming concepts and practices.

Through your choice of electives, you can study:

Database Management: The focus of database management is earning to work with the storage and management of electronic data. Emphasis is placed on learning database management systems software and understanding and recommending user system requirements and data storage methods.

Programmer/Analyst: Interested in learning a different language? Just like humans, computers speak their own languages. Emphasis is on developing advanced programming skills, mastering a variety of computer languages.

Web Management: Websites must be both appealing and functional.This area will help you develop the skills necessary to manage great websites. Those skills include graphic design, understanding of operating systems, principles in eBusiness and programming techniques.

COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS CERTIFICATES
Certificates are sequences of technical and professional courses. They provide access to targeted, short-term workforce training, and completers may sit for specific certification exams. Courses in certificate programs also apply toward technical certificates and associate degree programs in the subject area.

Certificates currently offered in this field are:

  • Database (27 credits)
    Upon completion leads to various Certifications in Computer Information Systems: Microsoft Access User Specialist and Microsoft Technology Associate - Database Administrator, employment and/or completion of an associate degree. Program and Employment Information

    Upon completion leads to various Certifications in Computer Information Systems: Sun Certified Java Programmer and Sun Certified Java Associate, employment and/or completion of an associate degree. Program and Employment Information
  • Visual Programming (21 credits)
    Upon completion leads to preparation for various Certifications in Computer Information Systems, employment and/or completion of an associate degree. Program and Employment Information
  • Web Management (27 credits)

COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE
Technical Certificate programs provide education in conceptual and technical skills for specific occupations. Each program contains a sequence of required courses in a recognized concentration within one of the programs at the College. The program content is designed to develop competency in the comprehension of general and technical skills. Certificate programs require mastery of basic reading, writing, mathematical and algebraic skills. Program and Employment Information

To earn this degree, you must have 31-33 credits in the following areas:

  • General Education Core: 7-9 credits
  • Professional/Technical Core: 9 credits
  • Regionally Determined: 15 credits
