Financial Aid and Scholarships Potential students should not allow finances to impede their dreams of obtaining a college education. Financial assistance is available for most students. In fact, more than 70% of Ivy Tech students at the Columbus campus receive some type of financial aid.

Financial aid is money to help pay for college. Assistance may be gift aid such as grants, scholarships, low interest loans or part-time employment. You may be able to receive financial aid even if you plan to attend just one term each year.

Ivy Tech may have aid for qualified students who take fewer than six hours each term and for students who need assistance with the cost of textbooks.

Types of Assistance Gift Aid: Scholarships, grants and various types of fee remissions that do not have to be repaid.

Loans: Awards which must be repaid. (Rates and terms listed in this section are subject to change. Please contact your lender for more information.)

Part-time Employment: For all types of employment, you will work a specific number of hours per week and be paid on a bi-weekly basis. Ideally, your employment will be in an area related to your course of study. The vast majority of jobs are located on campus.

Application Steps Apply for admission to a degree-seeking program.
Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and mail it to the address on the application. After receiving the Student Aid Report (SAR), bring it or mail it to the Financial Aid Office.

If you are asked to provide additional documents, do so as quickly as possible. When you receive an Ivy Tech Financial Aid notification letter in the mail, read it carefully and keep it in your personal records. It does not need to be returned to the Financial Aid Office.

Remember: If you plan to be a full-time student, the best time to apply is between Jan. 1 and March 1. Completing the paperwork during this time may qualify you for additional aid.
