JONATHAN WILSON

Wilson’s professional background encompasses everything from photojournalism, commercial and stock photography, publishing, production, to creating sales systems.

Employment:

The Times of India, Bombay and Statesman, New Delhi

Covered the Indian film industry and politics, under a Press Institute of India grant.

The Exploratorium Museum, San Francisco - staff photographer

Self Employment : Los Angeles (clients included advertising agencies, Sunset Magazine and the Southwest Museum)
Sunrise Publications (worked with the early development of this company, from a garage operation in Los Angeles to what has now become a multimillion dollar operation).

Hired in 1976 to teach commercial art and start the photography department at Ivy Tech State College. Since then has had numerous freelance accounts as well as participating in many one man and group exhibits. His work has been represented by Westlight/Corbis in Los Angeles.

For the past 12 years, Wilson's personal emphasis has been to work with digital imaging and create a larger body of personal work. Work has been shown recently at the Columbus, Ohio Museum of Art, University of Toledo museum of Art, Lafayette Museum of Art and Indianapolis Museum of Art, Columbus.

DON NISSEN

With his background in communications, Don applies his design efforts for local non-profits, including Turning Point Domestic Violence Shelter, The Bartholomew County Historical Society, The Columbus Architectural Archives, Children Inc., Su Casa, The Columbus Center for Teaching and Learning, The Columbus Scottish Festival, and The American Lung Association. Don started as a part-time instructor, then joined the school full-time in 1987. His prior experience includes a year of freelance as a graphic designer in Bloomington, and working as the in-house graphic designer at Bloomington Hospital, Assistant Editor for a national education magazine and newsletter in Bloomington, and writer for apprenticeship programs publications at Indiana University.

He has a bachelor's degree in Communications and English from Buena Vista University in Iowa, and a Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Kansas. While working toward a Master's in American Literature from Kansas State University, Don taught English Composition classes, and many semesters of English as a Second Language to Kansas State students from all over the world.

FRANK "BUDDY" MORRIS

FRANK “BUDDY” MORRIS : before settling down in Bloomington, Frank moved around the country with his family and lived in the northern part of Africa for four years as a boy. He has worked at everything from pawnshops and carnies (setting up rides) to photographing the Irish countryside. Frank received his Master of Fine Arts in Photography / Digital Imaging in 1992 from Indiana University and has been trained as both an artist and technician. He has been lead Multimedia Designer for the Teaching and Learning Technologies Lab of Indiana University. His collaborative production credits include two published CD-ROM titles : “Investigating Olduvia Gorge” (1997) and “Five Windows into Africa” (2000). Both titles are cross-platform and targeted for the education market. His freelance illustration work has been published in French and American journals.

DARRYL JONES
Photography

Indiana’s famed photographer, Darryl has photographed several books about Indiana, including “Indiana,” “Indianapolis,” and “The Spirit of the Place.” Darryl received a degree in Psychology at Indiana University in 1970 and completed two years of Masters degree work in Religious Studies. Darryl has published articles on photographic processes in Modern Photography, Popular Photography, and Peterson’s Photographic. He has participated in over a hundred exhibits nationally, including a special exhibit honoring him at the University of Cairo, Egypt. Local accounts for Darryl have included the Indianapolis Speedway, the Indianapolis Ballet Company, and numerous advertising agencies and design studios.

Jim graduated in 1981 with a BFA in Photography from The Art Center of Design in Pasadena, CA. For twenty years, he has operated Barnett Photography, Inc. in Indianapolis, specializing in corporate and advertising photography and a client list that includes Nestle, Kodak, General Electric, Oldsmobile, Radisson Hotels, Target, McDonald’s, and a variety of national magazines. He also shoots architectural photos in many American cities for East coast architectural firms.

DAVID WILLIAMS
Drawing, Fundamentals of Design
BFA, Parsons School of Design, New York City

David is a native of Columbus. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Parsons School of Design in New York City in 1987. He is a fine art painter who believes that drawing is a foundational experience for design students. The focus of his professional work is the telling of stories through color with the common objects of still life painting and the figure. His interests are woodcraft, framing, calligraphy, books, bookbinding, and cooking.

KAREN KENNEDY

A native of Indianapolis, Karen attended Butler University and John Herron School of Art concurrently for three years before transferring full-time to Herron, earning her BFA in 1974. She has worked for several local ad agencies and managed corporate in-house graphics departments. In 1989, she began her own design business, major productions, inc.

With a Master Gardener certification and landscape design added to her services, her company name changed in February 2006 to Design in Bloom.

MIKE DICKBERND
Photojournalism, Fundamentals of Imaging
BA, University of Iowa

Mike Dickbernd is the senior staff photographer for Columbus' Republic newspaper and a 1995 graduate of the University of Iowa. Although he started life as a Hawkeye, he now considers himself to be a true Hoosier after working at Indiana newspapers since 1998. Mike started his journalism career at The Buffalo Bulletin newspaper in Buffalo, Wyoming in 1997 and has since collected 22 photojournalism awards from a variety of journalism organizations.

AMANDA OTT

Amanda is originally from Corydon, Indiana and recently moved to Franklin, Indiana. She completed her BFA in Painting and Art History from Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana. After attending Hanover College, she graduated from the University of Louisville with a MFA in Art History. She currently teaches Art History at both the Columbus and Indianpolis Ivy Tech campuses.

BILL DILLON
Electronic Imaging
David Lipscomb University, Nashville, Tennessee

From elementary school through college, the arts were Bill’s passion. Theatre was his major while attending David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee.

After college, Bill started his own business, designing one-of-a-kind leather travel bags, briefcases, and accessories. Bill’s work caught the eye of many country music stars. Ray Stevens, Roy Clark, Ronnie Milsap, and even Elvis Presley commissioned work (one of his works is still on display at Graceland).


Going back to school at age 40, he earned an Associate's Degree in graphic design from Ivy Tech-Columbus and reclaimed his creative passion for art.

Since 1992, Bill has been a freelance designer and illustrator.

JAN BANISTER

Jan is a native of Kenmore, New York in the Niagara Falls area, and a longtime resident of Chicago before relocating to Columbus in 1989. She completed a BFA in Interior Design from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois in 1980, and has been a partner in The Design Offices of Kim O’Connor, ASID, and Jan Banister, ASID since 1995.
