Digital Camera Basics

Digital cameras can intimidate users, even those with considerable experience with film. In this hands-on class, you will practice using your camera, connecting your camera to the computer, and transferring your photos for viewing, printing, email and storage. Learn about your digital camera’s menus, and basic controls, features, and settings. Discover the differences between the automatic mode and various scene modes of your camera, when to use them and much more. You will gain understanding of your camera and confidence in your ability to change basic settings on your camera. Each participant should bring a camera with the manual and connection cords to each class. Textbook is included in the registration.

Digital Cameras: Beyond the Basics

Prerequisite: Digital Camera Basics or knowledge of topics covered: transferring pictures from camera to computer, emailing and printing pictures, switching camera scene modes and basic flash options. Gain deeper knowledge of photography and your camera that will give you more creative control over your photography. Find out how and when to adjust white balance, ISO, exposure and flash.

Learn what the various automatic, semi-automatic and manual settings can do. Explore the metering and focusing options available on your camera. Software and online options for file management, keeping images safe, editing and printing will also be discussed. Participants should bring their digital camera, camera manual and connection cords to each class.

Prerequisite: Working knowledge of your camera and a desire to take better pictures.

Learn time-honored techniques that professionals use to make memorable and exciting photographs – techniques that work with any type of camera. Discover simple artistic principles that will improve your photos as they change the way you see the world. In this class, you will enjoy hands-on activities, inspiring assignments, photo-sharing opportunities, and instructor-led discussions. Bring your digital camera and camera manual to this class and start thinking like a photographer. It will show in your photographs.
