Appreciating Who I Am is the first of seven soft-skill classes in the HIRE (Help in Reaching Employment) job readiness program series. While part of the series, Appreciating Who I Am can also be presented as a stand-alone class.

Course Objectives
• Given an example of a person’s key values, generate two or more attitudes and perceptions that will influence that person’s behavior in a given situation.
• Given a sample situation and using their own key values, generate two or more attitudes and perceptions that influence their own behavior.
• Given the four behavioral styles of the DISC assessment, describe at least two basic characteristics of each style, identify their own dominant style and list two ways their own style affects their behavior.
• When asked for a definition of diversity and examples of diversity in the workplace, define diversity using word variations and list at least six types of diversity found in the workplace.
• Given an example of a particular change situation in the workplace, identify behaviors from four basic skill areas for dealing with change that will help an individual deal with that particular situation.
Training description and materials
This instructor-led interactive course focuses on value clarification, understanding behavioral style differences and workforce diversity. Participants take the DISC assessment to determine their own personal work style. Profile patterns and style distribution of the four basic DISC styles are reviewed. A game, Diversity Bingo, is one activity utilized to illustrate currently held perceptions and to move towards respecting and valuing differences in the workplace. The course will also examine useful skills for dealing with change. The class concludes with a journaling exercise and action plan development.
Hours and cost:
Your Appreciating Who I Am course is a 7-hour training activity, scheduled at your convenience for up to 12 participants. 0.7 IACET approved CEU’s will be awarded upon successful completion of the course. Pricing includes training administration, instruction, class handouts and materials, DISC assessment, and an activity evaluation at the conclusion of training.
