The RN Refresher course provides a comprehensive review of Medical Surgical Nursing, pharmacology, dosage calculations, clinical nursing skills, and an optional clinical practicum in pre-selected hospitals. The Nurse Refresher course provides an opportunity for RN’s who have been out of nursing for several years to review, learn, and practice in a non-threatening environment; enabling the student to progress towards contemporary nursing practice.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

• To utilize the nursing process with emphasis on assessment, analysis, planning, and intervention in providing care to adult clients with health deviations

• To dispense medications safely within the prescribed procedures mandated by Ivy Tech Community College

• To function in the role of RN related to provider of care, manager of care, and member of the discipline

• To employ legal/ethical standards when providing care to adult clients

TRAINING DESCRIPTION

Participants will experience student-guided learning activities via the Internet using a virtual classroom. Students will email assignments and complete online exams as they complete fifteen training modules. Two days of onsite skills lab practice are scheduled to verify competency in basic nursing skills. There is an optional sixteen days of clinical with a preceptor in a hospital. Course requirements must be completed in nine months from the official start date.
